Iberoideas:
Virtual Forum of the Iberoamerican Network of Politico-Conceptual
and Intellectual History (RIAHPCI).
Recently, the field of conceptual history has
called the attention of a growing number of students, which resulted
into the proliferation of historical works on political languages,
concepts, and discourses. Historians and social scientists, aware
of the inextricable links between history and language, as well
as the need to comprehend the view that past actors had of their
world and themselves, endeavor to jointly approach thinking and
action. This new methodological perspective served to bring together
disciplines which hitherto have remained relatively isolated,
such as the new political history, the history of concepts, social
and institutional history, and constitutional history. The number
and variety of studies on key notions of modernity, such as nation,
individual, citizenship, republic, liberalism, rights, representation,
public opinion, and so on, in Iberian and Iberoamerican societies
concretely demonstrates the vitality of these new approaches and
the increasing collaboration among specialists in different fields
of knowledge.
The Iberoamerican Network of Politico-Conceptual and Intellectual
History intends to diffuse these new scholarly orientations and
help the exchange among researches from both sides of the Atlantic.
The forum IberoIdeas seeks, thus, to serve as a vehicle for the
debate among different perspectives and approaches to the field
of meanings, and to explore different ways to understand better
how the modes of comprehension of reality historically changed.
